History
History: the printed publication, Finance Dublin was merged with Finance Magazine in 2009, continuing the continuous monthly analysis of finance in Ireland provided since June 1987, when the first issue of Finance Magazine was published. Finance Dublin was established in 1996, as a complementary publication to Finance Magazine to provide more focussed analysis of the growing IFSC content of Finance Magazine which was first published in June 1987, the same year as the Irish Government, and the EU agreed to designate for special tax treatment an 'International Financial Services Centre' in Dublin. (This special tax treatment of the 'IFSC' was ended in 2000, because of EU state-aid rules that prompted the Irish Goverment to 1998 to respond by introducing an economy-wide 12.5% corporation tax rate.)
Fintel as a publishing company has pioneered seminal ideas in finance since its foundation in 1987, having been one of the very first forums in the world to bring attention to anomalous pricing issues in the run up to the global financial crisis (2006). It also has been credited with being the first publication to seriously question pricing levels in the Irish housing market (in 2000, and before). Its publication Aviation Finance, established in 2011, is a leading aviation finance industry publication, serving one of the most global of industries.
Advertising
Our mission in advertising is to deliver information to readers from advertisers that helps their search for better value, recognising that every transaction, whether social or commercial, involves search costs. The monetary price of a good usually isn’t a measure of how much a customer has spent on it, nor does it accurately reflect what the producer received. The customer pays the monetary cost plus search costs, which can take the form of consumer research, product assessment and social validation. Sometimes these costs are monetary, but more often they involve time, effort and anxiety, and is is this which ultimately we seek to resolve through our advertising and sponsorship services.
Editorial and Research
We are committed to balanced discourse in ideas, promoting the advancement of scientific and evidence-based knowledge on the major questions in global finance. We seek to publish evidence based and objective information, taking note of Francis Bacon's observation: "It cannot be that axioms established by argumentation can suffice for the discovery of new works, for the subtilty of nature exceedeth many times over the subtilty of argument" ( Francis Bacon, Novum Organon). In this spirit, we are impressed by the insights of 20th century epistemology that emphasise 'falsification' as a fruitful method for the advancement of knowledge, the lessons of the Great Financial Crisis being a primary example.
Although Finance Dublin has been variously described as a 'flagship' of the IFSC and indeed its 'bible', it is an independent commercial publication, published by Fintel Ltd. It seeks to provide an all inclusive forum for the expression of differing perspectives, and to reflect the unique contributions of all stakeholders in the industry.
In publishing content relating to quoted securities, Fintel and its employees subscribe to a voluntary code of conduct which includes recognition of the principles relating to publications and publishing organisations in the European Union's MIFID ('The Markets in Financial Instruments Directive' - 2004/39/EC).
