SMBC Aviation Capital’s acquisition of the Goshawk Aviation commercial aircraft leasing platform in the closing days of 2022, at an enterprise value of $6.7 billion, was a landmark transaction. It secured the largest Japanese-owned aircraft lessor’s position as the second largest global player after AerCap with total assets of $37 billion, providing the benefit of additional scale at a time of rising interest rates.

Both the target company and the acquirer in this deal are headquartered in Ireland and this transaction, the largest aviation M&A deal in 2022, demonstrates the pivotal role that Ireland plays in this global industry.
