Deals of the Year 2023: €1bn infrastructure acquisition marks arrival of KKR-backed investor and manager in Ireland
The disposal of three important infrastructural assets, including over 400 telecom towers, the Dublin Convention Centre and a portfolio of 20 primary care centres, for a reported €1 billion was significant for both the vendor and the acquirer. It was a milestone for The Irish Infrastructure Fund, which had been established in 2011 with substantial state backing to invest in essential community and national infrastructure and services. But it was also the first Irish investment by KKR-backed John Laing Group, which hinted strongly it was unlikely to be its last.
