Dermot Hardy
Head of Treasury
Aareal Bank AG, Dublin Branch
Dermot Hardy is Head of Treasury for Aareal Bank AG, Dublin Branch where he is responsible for managing the treasury function and the Branch balance sheet, which is currently over EUR 4 billion. One specific task has been to set-up and manage an ABS portfolio. He has developed Dublin Branch into the only centre in the Group which has a mandate to invest in investment grade ABS. Over the past two yeas he has built up a portfolio of bonds which are held both in the buy-to-hold and trading books, for the Group. The current focus is on RMBS, CMBS, Autos, Credit Cards and Student Loans, a recent addition to the mandate has been CDOs backed by ABS and backed by MBS. Prior to this he spent 5 years working for Bankgesellschaft Berlin (Ireland) plc where he was Head of Banking and managed the BGB Ireland portfolio. As well as managing the ABS book he was also involved in developed structural solutions to manage balance sheet capital. He was also one of the portfolio managers for the BGB ABS portfolio, which included two ABCP Conduits, where he was involved in asset selection and portfolio management decisions for the group. In previous employment Dermot worked as an Economist, a treasury consultant and a government bond trader. He has extensive experience of trading interest rate futures, bonds, currencies and credit products. Dermot is also the current Chairman of the Investor/Issuer Group of the Irish Securitisation Forum.
