Canada Life, part of Great-West Lifeco Inc., is one of the world’s largest providers of life insurances and is a major insurer in the both the Irish domestic life insurance market (through Irish Life) and the Irish cross border re/insurance market. Through Canada Life Assurance Europe plc (established in 2000) it sells essential ability insurance, critical illness and unitised-with-profit products in the German market while through Canada Life International Assurance (Ireland) (CLIA(I)) it offers offshore investment and tax planning products including an International Portfolio Bond as well as a Wealth Preservation Europe Account and Premiere Europe Account. A third subsidiary, Canada Life International Re dac acts as the European headquarters of Canada Life’s international reinsurance business. It underwrites and administers international life and annuity reinsurance business with a primary focus on life retrocession business emerging from the EU and US as well as on UK payout annuity business.
