Airbus Financial Services Unlimited Company

Airbus has had a presence in Dublin since 1990 when a wholly owned subsidiary, Airbus Industrie Financial Services, and now called Airbus Financial Services (AFS) was set up to finance the development costs of the Airbus A321. Ireland was selected because of its beneficial tax environment and skilled professionals, especially with respect to aviation. Although AFS was established primarily to show that Airbus did not need to rely on government launch aid for financing the launch of new products, it soon became the vehicle for the booking and management of other Airbus financial assets.

The original company operated in Dublin's IFSC with one seconded staff member from Airbus in Toulouse, France and, at the time, a support service provided by Allied Irish Banks. AFS remains based in the IFSC with a staff of 23 professionals. It provides management services to certain related companies in the Airbus Group, including subsidiaries of Airbus Helicopters and Vector Aerospace.
