The Institute of Bankers in Ireland was founded in 1898 and has been setting the standards for banking education ever since. Today, the Institute has over 33,600 members who work in banking and financial services. The Institute of Banking is the largest professional institute in Ireland and provides university-level banking education programmes and related services. These enable its members to achieve and sustain their professional qualifications and continuing professional development - essential to meet customer and regulatory expectations. More than 9,800 of our members are currently studying with the Institute.
The Institute of Bankers in Ireland is a recognised college of University College Dublin (UCD) and the standout industry educator, offering qualifications of the highest standard. They currently have more than 40 programmes ranging from Professional Certificates (level 7 on the NFQ) to Masters Degree (level 9).
Its Programmes are practical and relevant, but grounded in academic rigour. They focus on providing innovative and flexible education options to ensure that changing needs are meet. All of the Programmes are part-time. Through its Professional Education Framework, the Institute provides a core set of qualifications and a professional pathway for everyone in banking - from customer advisor to board director. Developed in conjunction with the banks and UCD, the Framework supports banking professionals in developing their knowledge and their transferable skills. It enhances their capability and confidence in developing their careers and in availing of new opportunities. It also sustains employability of banking professionals in the context of changing industry and organisational needs. The Framework is open to everyone, whatever their age, career stage, qualifications, experience, specialism and ambition.
The Institute of Banking offers some programmes in partnership with other professional bodies, including: Association of Compliance Officers in Ireland (ACOI); The Insurance Institute of Ireland (III); Irish Funds Industry Association (IFIA); Irish Tax Institute (ITI) and Life Insurance Association (LIA).
