CFA Ireland is a member society of CFA Institute, a global organisation that awards the CFA designation. It is a representative body of investment professionals active in the Irish market place. The objects for which the Society was established are:
1.To achieve, foster and maintain high standards of professional ability and practice in investment analysis, portfolio management and related disciplines in Ireland,
2.To encourage the creation and interchange of ideas and information among those engaged in these activities, and
3.To encourage and assist the study of investment analysis and any other subjects of interest to the profession.
The society currently has a membership of over 300, with a candidate pool of a further 600 individuals pursuing the award of the CFA designation. Some members of the Irish society also hold membership of the CFA Institute. CFA Institute leads the global investment industry by setting the highest standards of ethics and professional excellence and vigorously advocating fair and transparent capital markets. CFA Institute is comprised of individual members who hold the CFA designation (and are required to maintain membership while they use their charter) and individual members who are active in the investment business and agree to abide by the CFA Institute ethical requirements. Both types of members hold voting rights.
