Matt Hedigan is a partner in Walkers Asset and Aviation Finance Practice Group, specialising in all aspects of the financing and leasing of aviation assets.

Matt advises private equity investors, operating lessors, financial institutions and airlines on tax-efficient leasing and financing structures. That includes platform establishments, warehouse financings, joint ventures and transportation business acquisitions disposals. He also specialises in advising clients on derivative and securities-lending transactions for a wide range of Irish entities using industry standard documentation like the International Swaps and Derivatives Association’s master agreements and global master repurchase agreements.

Matt has a strong finance background and particular expertise in cross-border debt capital markets transactions. This includes aircraft securitisations and loan portfolio financings, acquisitions and restructurings. He regularly advises on Irish and European Union financial services and securities law including: the Prospectus Directive, the European Market Infrastructure Regulation, the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive, the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive, the Market Abuse Directive and the Securitisation Regulation.

Career:

Before joining Walkers, Matt was a senior associate in the finance team of a large corporate law firm in Dublin. He also did a secondment with Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

Publications:

Matt has contributed to industry publications in areas of securitisation and capital markets and has spoken at industry events presenting on the topic of "Derivatives Compliance for SPVs" at the Irish Debt Securities Association industry briefing in June 2017.
