Speaker Biography

Deirdre Barry

Head of Treasury
Start Mortgages
Deirdre started her career in treasury with the Investment Bank of Ireland, the merchant banking subsidiary of the Bank of Ireland. As a member of the financial engineering team, she was responsible for assisting the bank in developing a presence in the derivative markets in Ireland and for the formulation and completion of structured transactions with corporate customers of the bank. In 1989 Deirdre joined Woodchester Investments plc, with a specific mandate to set up a group treasury function. This role involved the assumption of responsibility for funding on a group-wide basis using the banking and bond markets, as well as for interest rate and currency risk management throughout the group. In 1998 Deirdre left the Woodchester group and became a treasury consultant, completing treasury related projects for many entities within the Irish financial services sector, including a very large mortgage provider. Deirdre joined Start in June 2006 as Head of Treasury, with responsibility for rate risk management and funding, the latter responsibility encompassing Starts growing securitisation programme.
