Paul O'Connor

Chair of CRD Implementation Forum and Head of Wholesale Banking & Risk
Irish Banking Federation

Paul O’Connor worked in international banking roles in London and New York and was also a member of an executive team that built a successful commercial bank in the UK in the early 1990s. Paul subsequently worked in management consultancy with Accenture where he led programmes of work in the US and Europe and TCA Consulting Ltd where he led the investment banking consultancy business in London. Paul has worked with many of the leading global players in Banking advising on strategy, operations and risk management. Prior to returning to Ireland in 2004, Paul managed a business in New York focussed on the Hedge Fund sector. Paul is currently Head of Wholesale Banking & Risk with the Irish Banking Federation. In 2005 he led the successful Irish campaign for amendments to the Capital Requirements Directive (CRD) at EU level. He represents the Irish Banking industry on various EU committees, co-chairs both the CRD Implementation Forum and Systemic Risk Forum in Ireland with the Financial Regulator and is Chairman of the European Covered Bonds Industry Committee on CRD. He also chairs two Fora in Financial Crime, the Cash in Transit Forum and the more recently established Hi Tech Crime Forum.
