Sonya is Head of William Fry Tax Advisors and provides tax advice to a broad base of clients in various business sectors including property, healthcare, retail, media, energy and construction, and is a key member of the firm’s Foreign Direct Investment group. Her extensive experience includes advising on inward investment, IP and international tax structuring, reorganisations, real estate transactions and mergers and acquisitions.
She is a director of IFA (International Fiscal Association) Ireland and is the sole Irish member of the European VAT Club, a group of leading VAT specialists from EU member and other states. Sonya has contributed to Butterworth’s publication "Judge Irish Income Tax" and a published author and lecturer on numerous taxation topics.
Sonya has represented the Law Society of Ireland on a TALC Sub-Committee concerning changes required to tax legislation following the enactment of the Companies Act 2014.
Recent significant transactions include advising:
Forest Laboratories Inc on its merger with Actavis plc;
King Digital Entertainment on its restructuring to domicile to Ireland and IPO on the New York Stock Exchange;
UPMC in relation to its acquisition and sale of a majority stake in the Beacon Hospital.

Sonya is ranked in Tier 1 for Tax in Chambers Europe 2020, and as a Leading Individual in Legal 500 2020. She is also ranked as Highly Regarded and a Tax Leader in ITR World Tax.
Sonya was awarded Lawyer Monthly Women in Law 2014 award in recognition of her work in the tax sector. She is a frequent speaker in tax topics and has written on tax matters for several publications. She is the co-author of the Irish chapter on the European Lawyer Reference publication "Tax Litigation - Jurisdictional Comparisons"
Sonya contributed to "Judge Irish Income Tax", (Butterworth), and regularly lectures on various tax issues.
Sonya is a member of the Law Society of Ireland and the Irish Tax Institute. She is a member of the Law Society Taxation Committee and is also a director of the Irish branch of the IFA.
