KPMG is one of the largest corporate accounting and assurance practices in Ireland according to the latest Finance Dublin Survey of Ireland's Top 20 Accountancy firms. It operates on an all island of Ireland, 32 county basis.
It traces its beginnings to 1876, with the foundation of the firm of Stokes Brothers, later to become Stokes Bros & Pym. It got its modern impetus in the 20th century when the firm of Kennedy Crowley & Co. was established by Vincent Crowley and Peter Kennedy in 1919, and grew to become the second largest firm of chartered accountants in Ireland by the early 1970s when it merged with Stokes Bros & Pym. It joined the Peat Marwick Internnational organisation in 1980, and became the Irish national practice of KPMG following the international merger of Peat Marwick International and Klynveld Main Goerdeler in 1987.
The firm has 94 partners and over 3,000 staff based in Dublin, Belfast, Cork and Galway.
