Ireland’s EUR 5.2 trillion investment funds industry sits at the apex of Europe’s funds industry, not least because of its continued leadership in the ETFs space, one of the world’s most successful financial innovations of the past 30 years. This is a “strategic asset” in the words of one of the contributors in this Roundtable review, which includes an assessment of the progress, one year on, of the Irish Government’s ‘Funds Industry 2030’ Review. The wider evolution of Ireland’s investment funds landscape, is also the subject of the Roundtable’s ten topics examined in detail in the following pages. They include numerous references to the development of initiatives in private assets and private equity, and consequent legislation, including the intriguing possibilities for Ireland to develop as a centre of loan origination funds. Europe’s Savings & Investment Union, and its significance is just one of the seminal themes addressed.
