AIB’s odd-lot offer achieved AIB’s goal of reducing the size of its share register significantly and offered smaller shareholders an opportunity to realise some value for their shareholding without having to account for brokers’ fees which would otherwise have made a sale of shares uneconomic.

With a value of just €5m, the AIB odd-lot offer was modest in value when compared to other moves to regularise its share register, but was structured to allow small shareholders, many of whom held their shares since before the 2010 banking crisis, to exit the share register in an economic manner. The odd lot offer, only the second in the Irish market, is an Equity Capital Markets Deal of the Year.
