Deals of the Year 2025: Update of legal framework for Irish sovereign debt enabling Government bonds to be governed by Irish law
The NTMA updated the legal framework for issuing Irish sovereign debt in 2024. This will be the first time that publicly issued Irish government bonds can be governed by Irish law and the new instrument is further evidence of the growing acceptability of Irish law as a governing law for capital markets transactions. The award is also a recognition of the long term success of the Irish Government in managing the progressive reduction in the indebtedness of the Irish Exchequer.
