Deals of the Year 2025: Bank of Cyprus listing on Athens Stock Exchange first transaction of its kind for an Irish company

The transaction marks a return for the Bank of Cyprus group to its original dual listing structure on the Cyprus Stock Exchange and Athens Stock Exchange and is a significant milestone in the bank’s turnaround story. This transaction is unprecedented in the Irish, Greek and Cyprus legal markets and constituted the first time an Irish incorporated company has listed on ATHEX.
The winner of the Equity Capital Markets International Listing Deal of the Year is Bank of Cyprus plc’s LSE Delisting and Athens Stock Exchange (ATHEX) Listing. The transaction was significantly complicated by a number of factors. A bespoke securities settlement structure had to be designed and implemented in order to allow Irish shares to be traded directly on ATHEX for the first time and to allow seamless securities settlement and trading on day one of the ATHEX listing.
