FinanceDublin.com - <b>Deals of the Year 2024: </b>Sophisticated share trading plan helps DoF optimise AIB investment

The success of the Department of Finance’s sophisticated AIB pre-arranged share trading plan was evidenced by three transactions during 2023, enabling the Government to optimise the value from its investment in AIB Group whilst at the same time broadening the Group’s shareholder register.

The plan, managed by Merrill Lynch International, was designed by the Department’s advisors William Fry and Rothschild so as not to preclude the State from executing other transactions in the State’s shares in AIB that achieve value for money for taxpayers, including during the term of the trading plan. As such, other sale options, including accelerated book-build placings or directed buybacks have remained open as options during the term of the plan.
