Bernard Murphy
Dr. Murphy holds a MA in Economics from University College Dublin and a PhD in Finance from the Financial Options Research Centre (FORC) at Warwick Business School. He joined the University of Limerick in 1994 where he is currently Course Director for the MSc in Computational Finance programme. During a leave of absence from UL in 2001-02, he helped to set-up and co-headed the global financial engineering group in British Petroleum, where he was responsible for the development of proprietary financial models used by energy traders on the gas and power derivatives desks. It was on his return to UL from BP that he first proposed the establishment of a campus-based financial markets trading floor which would provide a realistic backdrop for both Masters and PhD students to carry out advanced quantitative research in the financial and energy markets. He is currently participating in a multi-institutional academic consortium which is preparing a financial mathematics / computational finance based research programme which will meet the applied research needs of the international financial services sector in Ireland.
