Kevin McConnell of Bloxham wins the ‘Best Equity Strategist’ award for the first time. Historically this category had been dominated by Robbie Kelleher of Davy, a winner of the category ten times in total with NCB’s Bernard McAlinden and John Hogan, formerly of stockbroking firm Riada (which was subsequently taken over by ABN AMRO and is today part of RBS), both winning the category on two occasions. Liam Boggan won the category in last year’s Survey which was Merrion’s first win in the category

Food & Beverages/Agribusiness
The food and beverage category goes to Joe Gill of Bloxham, moving up from his fourth place finish in last year’s Survey and is Gill’s first win in the category. Robert Brisbourne, formerly of Merrion and Davy’s John O’Reilly have been the main winners in the category in recent Surveys with O’Reilly winning four-in-a-row from 2001 to 2004 and Brisbourne winning three-in-a-row from 2005. Liam Igoe of Goodbody won the category in the 2008 Survey.

Construction & Building Materials
Goodbody’s Robert Eason retains his title in the Construction & Building Materials category, a category he has only failed to win twice since the 2003 Stockbroking Survey. He has won the category on four occasions.

Airlines
Bloxham’s Joe Gill takes Airlines, a category he first won in 2003 while at Goodbody. This is Gill’s fifth win in the Airlines category in all and his first since the 2006 Survey. Merrion’s John Mattimoe has won the category in the last two Surveys.

Financials
Eamonn Hughes from Goodbody wins the best financials analyst. Hughes first won the category in 1999 while at ABN AMRO, and went on to win in the two subsequent Surveys. Second in the all time list is John Hogan, formerly of Riada who won the category on four occasions in the 1990s.

Support Services
Killian Jones of Merrion wins the support services category for the first time. This is a relatively new category, in only it’s third year. Last year’s winner was Gavin Kelleher, formerly of Merrion.

Media & Technology
This is a new category for the 2009 Survey with Goodbody’s Gerry Hennigan taking first place.

Small & Mid Cap Stocks
Dan Cavanagh of Goodbody has won the Small & Mid Caps category, a jump from his fifth place finish in last year’s Survey. John Mattimoe of Merrion and John Sheehan of NCB have been strong performers in this category sharing seven of the previous eight Surveys, Mattimoe with three wins and Sheehan with four in the category.

Gaming
Killian Murphy of Goodbody wins the Gaming category for the first time. The category was introduced in the 2006 Survey and has been won twice by Gavin Kelleher, formerly of Merrion. Last year’s winner was Liam Igoe of Goodbody.

Energy & Resources
Gerry Hennigan of Goodbody makes it three-in-a-row in the Energy & Resources category. The category was introduced in the 2004 Survey with Davy’s Job Langbroek winning the category for the first two years. Peter Hutton, of NCB, won it in 2006 with Hennigan winning the category in each Survey since.

Pharma & Biotechnology
Davy’s Jack Gorman jumps from third in last year’s Survey to win the category this year. This is Gorman’s third victory in the category since 2005. Last year’s winner, Ian Hunter of Goodbody has also been a strong contender in the category having also won it on three occasions since 2003.

Paper & Packaging
Merrion’s John Mattimoe wins the Paper & Packaging award for the third time. The category was introduced in the 2006 Survey and Mattimoe has won it on each occasion.
